It was truly an honor to be sworn in as the Brooklyn Bar President on June 7th, 2010. This association is vitally important to the community, and it is both humbling and inspirational to lead this amazing group. I look forward to working with President Elect Ethan Gerber, First Vice President Domenick Napoletano, Second Vice President Andrew Fallek, Secretary Rebecca Woodland and Treasurer Arthur Aidala to continue The Brooklyn Bar’s outstanding history and to secure its future.
I was thrilled to have Justice Theodore Jones perform the induction of officers and trustees and it was wonderful to have Justice Sylvia O. Hinds Radix, Justice Barry Kamins, Past Presidents Larry Di Giovanna and Rose Ann Branda and VLP Director Jeannie Costello addressing our association. I know with their support, the support of our fabulous Past Presidents and our wonderful officers, trustees and staff that this year will be terrific.
One way I look forward to serving the BBA’s members is through increased free member benefits. Recently members began receiving the “Brooklyn Bar Tuesday Technology Tips” via email. These free tips are provided by the Technology Committee of the Brooklyn Bar. We have received a lot of positive feedback, and we look forward to keeping our members up to date technologically. If you have not been receiving tips, make certain the BBA has your email address so we can get you on the list.
Another new member benefit that will be available during the next year is a 15% discount for process serving and investigations with “Serving by Irving”. All members in good standing will be able to take advantage of this discount, which I hope will be beneficial to their practices. To learn more about the services offered by Serving by Irving, visit their website at www.servingbyirving.com.
Plans for our summer Brooklyn Cyclones event are underway. This year the outing is planned for August 18th, and we hope to have even more members enjoy a fun evening with their families at Keyspan Park in Coney Island. Be on the lookout for final details in your email inbox so that you can reserve you seats.
This summer our new mentoring program committee will be hard at work to plan activities for the upcoming year. Richard Klass is chairing this new committee, and will be working with President Elect Ethan Gerber and Lara Genovesi to grow our law student and young lawyer membership. It is our hope that this program will present the opportunity for our law students and young lawyers to benefit by engaging the wisdom and experience of our established members.
Richard Klass has experience in running mentoring programs from his involvement in the City Bar, and he is organizing this program. President Elect Gerber has committed to reaching out to local law schools to get them involved with this new program. I am thankful to both of them for their work and their support. Be on the lookout for an email letting you know when applications to be a mentor or mentee are available on our website, www.brooklynbar.org.
