Description:
The unique rules of the New York City’s Traffic Violations Bureau make it a somewhat difficult arena for fighting traffic tickets as opposed to other traffic courts in New York State. Most important, there are no plea bargains at the Traffic Violations Bureau. All summonses that have been pleaded Not Guilty must be adjudicated.

This course is designed to help lawyers represent clients who retain them for traffic
court tickets. The course may include speakers such as an Administrative Law Judge and a Police Officer. We will also discuss frequently issued tickets, such as speeding, improper use of cell
phone/portable electronics, and failure to yield to pedestrians. The statutory and factual elements of these charges will be reviewed.

Digital Estate Planning – We will explore the definition of digital assets and how to access, secure and distribute them. We will also cover various planning techniques used to avoid pitfalls and ensure smooth administration of digital assets.
Special Needs Trusts – We will explain the importance of supplemental needs trusts, when to create them and how to fund them as well as the difference between a third-party trust versus a self-settled “payback” trust. A recent New York trust case will be presented to explore the role and responsibilities of corporate trustees of supplemental needs trusts.
Same-Sex Family Planning – Since U.S. v. Windsor, the landmark Supreme Court case that defeated a controversial federal law denying equal treatment to same-sex spouses, some 35 states recognize same-sex marriage.
